StudyRoom Cookie Notice
Version: 2026-08-20.2 Applies to: studyroom.cc and the StudyRoom application
StudyRoom is operated by PIAZR Pty Ltd (ABN 69 660 867 390), 21A Eungai Pl, North Narrabeen NSW 2101. "StudyRoom Academy" is a registered business name of PIAZR Pty Ltd; "StudyRoom" is the product name used throughout this site and application.
This notice explains the cookies and similar storage StudyRoom sets in your browser. It sits alongside the Privacy Policy. If they ever conflict, the Privacy Policy controls how personal information is handled.
Australia does not currently require a GDPR-style cookie-consent wall for the first-party cookies we set. This notice is the APP 5 collection notice for that information. Attribution cookies can become personal information when they are later linked to a parent registration; they are never attached to a student's learning record.
For students: the short version
StudyRoom uses a small number of first-party cookies so the site can keep you signed in and remember a year-band choice in English Writing. Marketing cookies are only used on public landing links, and they are never attached to a student's learning activity.
1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small piece of data stored on your device by the site you are visiting. StudyRoom also uses the browser's cookie jar the same way for signed-in sessions. We do not currently run a third-party advertising pixel, a session-replay product, or a cookie-consent banner — if that changes, this notice will be updated and the Privacy Policy version will bump. We do not claim those cookies are “strictly necessary” in the GDPR sense; we say which ones the app cannot run without (session) and which are measurement or preference only.
2. Cookies we set
| Name | Who sets it | Purpose | Typical life | Essential to the service? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Auth.js / NextAuth session cookies | StudyRoom (first party) | Keep a signed-in user authenticated after login | Session, or the auth provider default | Yes — the app cannot stay signed in without them |
sr_english_year | StudyRoom (first party) | Remember the English Writing year-band preference so lesson pages keep the same filter | 180 days | No — functionality only. Clearing it falls back to profile year level or a default |
tf_attribution | StudyRoom (first party), set on /go/[slug] | Remember which public landing/campaign link a browser arrived from, so we can attribute a later parent registration. Not used for student learning analytics | ~90 days | No — marketing measurement |
tf_landing_assignment | StudyRoom (first party), set on /go/[slug] | Remember which landing-page experiment variant this browser saw | ~90 days | No — marketing measurement |
Privacy boundary for attribution cookies: tf_attribution and tf_landing_assignment describe the visiting browser's own click. At registration they are only materialised for a parent account. A student signup is never linked to those cookies.
3. Third-party cookies we do not set ourselves
When you use Google sign-in, Google may set its own cookies as part of that sign-in. When a parent pays, Stripe Checkout runs on Stripe's domain and Stripe sets its own cookies there. When a parent or teacher opts into WhatsApp, Meta operates WhatsApp under Meta's terms. Those products are not StudyRoom cookies; they are governed by those companies' notices.
We do not currently embed a third-party analytics SDK that sets its own advertising cookies on studyroom.cc. If an admin later enables optional tracing (for example Langfuse content tracing), that is disclosed in the Privacy Policy as a known gap until confirmed off in production.
4. How to refuse or clear non-essential cookies
- Essential session cookies: if you block them, you will not stay signed in.
sr_english_year: delete site cookies for studyroom.cc, or use browser settings. The year filter will fall back to your profile.- Attribution cookies: delete site cookies, or use a browser that clears them. This does not affect a student account's learning data.
- There is no in-app cookie dashboard today. That is a known gap, not something this notice pretends exists.

- Terms of Service — the agreement for using StudyRoom
6. Changes
If we add advertising cookies, a consent banner, or a new first-party cookie, we will update this notice. A material change that affects the Privacy Policy also bumps the accepted Terms/Privacy version so signed-in users re-accept.
