A calm guide for families

What a small learning pilot can show — and what it cannot.

The pilot is designed to make a next learning step easier to discuss. This guide keeps the evidence boundary visible so families can ask good questions without reading more into the pilot than it can support.

Within the limited pilot

What the pilot can show

Within its limited scope, the pilot can help make a learner's recent work and a possible next action easier to see.

A specific learning signal

What the learner attempted, where a step changed, or which concept needs another example.

The response that followed

Which explanation, question, example, or practice path was offered in response to that signal.

A later point to revisit

Whether a later independent check gives the learner and teacher another useful piece of evidence.

Read the boundary carefully

What it cannot infer

A helpful trail is not the same thing as a complete assessment. The pilot does not support broad conclusions about a learner or a course.

  • It cannot infer a final grade, promised result, or complete course standing from a small set of attempts.
  • It cannot infer permanent retention or broad mastery from one successful check.
  • It cannot infer that every StudyRoom course has the same capability.
  • It cannot replace a teacher's context, a learner's own voice, or a family's judgement.

A useful conversation

Questions parents can ask

The most useful parent conversation is specific, curious, and open to the limits of the evidence.

Privacy and safety stay part of the boundary

A learning trail should contain only the context needed to support the next learning decision. Families should be able to ask what is being recorded, who can see it, and how a learner can correct or question an interpretation.

  • Ask for the concrete work or signal behind a summary.
  • Treat automated suggestions as prompts for review, not final judgements.
  • Keep access to learner information within the people and product surfaces intended to support that learner.
  1. 1What was the original learning signal, in the learner's own work?
  2. 2What response or example was offered, and why was it chosen?
  3. 3What did the learner try independently after that response?
  4. 4What was checked later, and what would be a sensible next action?
  5. 5Is this part of the Maths Y7 runtime pilot, a Science runtime pilot, English Writing formative loop, or a future target?

Current course status

Current course status

The public status is intentionally more specific than the framework story.

Runtime pilot

Maths Y7

Covers all six Year 7 strands, but the evidence is still concept by concept.

Runtime pilot

Biology

Cells pilot only; the rest of the course uses standard lessons and practice.

Runtime pilot

Chemistry

Matter pilot only; the rest of the course uses standard lessons and practice.

Content-ready

English Writing

Formative writing loop with next-step coaching; not Maths episode runtime or official NAPLAN/Selective scores.

Target

All other courses

The method is a future course target, not current course status.

Continue with context

Keep the next question specific.
