StudyRoom NAPLAN Writing Accelerator — formative practice for Years 3 and 5
NAPLAN Writing Accelerator

Writing practice for the March window, without fake official scores.

For Years 3 and 5, StudyRoom focuses formative practice on narrative and persuasive writing — the genres on the official NAPLAN writing test — with year pathways, Exam Prep mocks, Practice Dojos, a Years 3–6 paper booklet, and a revise loop. Feedback is practice coaching, not an ACARA band.

Built for NAPLAN sitting years

Same course engine. Clearer year job.

The NAPLAN Writing Accelerator packages StudyRoom's Years 3–6 English Writing course for the March window: year filters, timed modes, Exam Prep (surprise genre + phase pace), Practice Dojos between mocks, a printable Years 3–6 paper booklet, writing games, a next-step after every draft, and a Socratic AI coach that never writes the piece — with claim-safe formative language throughout.

Year 5

Priority parent cohort

Year 5 is the strongest near-term demand for NAPLAN writing practice. Students get persuasive-first pathways plus narrative, with timed sittings, Exam Prep habits, and revise loops.

  • Persuasive TREE planning before drafting
  • Surprise-genre timed mocks from Exam Prep
  • Formative feedback on ten criteria categories
  • Parent digest + verified NAPLAN window

Year 3

Paper sitting + early habits

Year 3 writing is typically paper-based (~40 minutes). StudyRoom now includes a printable Year 3 Writing Practice Booklet with StudyRoom cover scenes — plus the plan–draft–revise habit and keyboarding tips for later typed years.

  • Customise a StudyRoom cover, pick Year 3–6 and how many practice tests to include, then download a calm home handwriting pack with an edit checklist. Formative only — never an official NAPLAN paper.
  • Age-appropriate original prompts (never ACARA past papers in-app)
  • Paper NAPLAN-style conditions + keyboarding parent tip
  • Socratic coach — never writes the piece

For parents

How to use the toolkit at home

Stay calm and nearby. Do not coach mid-sit. After feedback, help your child name one revise focus.

  • One place to start a NAPLAN-style mock that feels like the real day (you find out narrative or persuasive when you begin). Feedback stays practice coaching.
  • Between full timed sits, kids open a dojo for a few minutes, win one craft move, then take it into a real draft. Wins are formative craft practice — not marks.
  • Plenty of fresh practice topics so kids are not stuck on the same two prompts. We link to ACARA’s free demo for real online tools; we do not upload official papers.
  • Practice feedback only — not an official NAPLAN score

For students

Your clear path

In StudyRoom English, open Practice dojos, Exam prep, Practice tests, or Games from the left nav.

  • Choose a dojo, play a short bout with your guide, ask Sprig if you are stuck, then use that move in your own writing.
  • Start a surprise mock, follow the time plan, then fix one skill. The coach stays quiet while the clock runs.
  • Choose a year and cover scene, write on the lined pages with a pencil, then use the five-minute edit checklist.
  • After feedback, pick one skill and revise in your own words

For teachers

Assignable stamina work

Point classes at Exam Prep and Dojos, or assign a surprise-genre NAPLAN-style mock from Teacher Writing Studio.

  • In Assignments → Writing, pick a NAPLAN-style timed mode, tick surprise genre, and optionally set phase lock. You still release feedback as grade of record.
  • Assign soft or hard phase lock on a NAPLAN-style mock when a student needs pacing habits.
  • Send home a branded booklet for handwriting stamina. Year 3 packs match the paper sitting; Y4–6 packs are handwriting practice before online or Selective-style sits. Covers are gallery art only; prompts are original — never ACARA past papers.
  • You still release feedback as grade of record

Honesty

What we will not claim

We do not sell official bands, placement odds, or “OC writing”. Informative and other genres stay classroom practice — not NAPLAN writing labels. We do not host official ACARA writing prompts in the app.

  • No official NAPLAN score or guarantee
  • No Selective / scholarship prediction
  • 3 scored genres + practice genres (honest)
  • Booklet branded StudyRoom — NAPLAN only as NAPLAN-style conditions

Calendar

State-aware exam dates

Students, parents, and teachers see NAPLAN windows verified against ACARA publications, with indicative sittings clearly labelled.

  • National March writing window
  • Parent exam calendar on writing insights
  • Indicative dates labelled approximate

Practice loop

Structured practice students can repeat.

01

Warm up

Practice Dojo or lesson

Six short themed craft games — Revision Race, Sentence Dojo, Audience Swap, Paragraph Forge, Convention Crypt, and NAPLAN Season Quest — with a guide and Sprig the AI coach asking questions, never writing the draft.

02

Sit

Exam Prep or timed test

NAPLAN-style surprise-genre sittings for Y3/Y5, optional hard phase-timer, or untimed workshop drafts.

03

Paper (Y3)

Print the booklet

Printable multi-test PDF with StudyRoom cover scenes (no photo uploads), branded headers/footers, and original prompts. Year 3 matches the real paper NAPLAN Writing medium; Years 4–6 build handwriting stamina (Year 5 Writing is online).

04

Next step

Adaptive revise action

A clear next step after every draft — rewrite one focus, retry a sit, or open a lesson.
