Years 7–9 writing pathways, formative — not an official band.
Secondary Writing packages StudyRoom’s English Writing course for Years 7–9: longer timed sittings where NAPLAN applies, secondary voice practice, and a clear next step after every draft. Feedback is practice coaching, not an ACARA band.
Same course engine. Secondary year job.
Secondary voice without inventing official scores.
Years 7–9 get year pathways, timed NAPLAN-style modes where they apply, Exam Prep stamina tools, Practice Dojos for craft micro-wins, writing games, and a Socratic AI coach that never writes the piece — with claim-safe formative language throughout. Year 8 also links to formative VIC Selective practice.
Year 7
First secondary NAPLAN writing window
Longer formative timed practice (~42 min) with secondary length expectations — draft coaching only, never a cut-score claim.
- Analytical paragraphing and topic sentences
- Narrative and persuasive timed sits
- Next-step revise after every draft
Year 8
Evidence craft + VIC Selective runway
Classroom secondary writing plus a separate formative VIC Selective two-task lane. Neither path sells placement odds.
- Evidence embedding and audience awareness
- Link to VIC Selective Writing hub
- No official ACER or SEHS score claim
Year 9
NAPLAN Y9 stamina & analytical craft
Longer timed drafts and clearer text structure — still formative practice feedback, not an official band.
- Formative NAPLAN Y9 timed mode
- Secondary-appropriate persuasive/narrative voice
- Socratic coach — never writes the piece
Stamina toolkit
Exam Prep + Practice Dojos
Between full sits, students use Exam Prep (surprise genre, phase pace, 120+ original prompts) and Practice Dojos for short craft wins — then revise one focus.
- Open Exam Prep for Y7/Y9 surprise mocks
- Hard phase-timer optional for pacing practice
- Practice Dojos map back to lessons and criteria
- See the full parent/teacher/student overview on the practice toolkit page
Honesty
What we will not claim
We do not sell official bands, placement odds, or “OC writing”. Secondary packaging sits on the same english-writing entitlement — not a new scorer.
- No official NAPLAN score or guarantee
- No Selective / scholarship prediction
- Years 3–6 pathways stay available
Practice loop
Structured practice students can repeat.
Warm up
Dojo or lesson
Short Practice Dojo craft bouts or secondary skill lessons before a timed sit.
Draft
Timed, workshop, or writing game
NAPLAN-style timed sittings for Y7/Y9 via Exam Prep or Practice tests, untimed drafts, or stamina games.
Feedback
Responsible AI coach
Socratic questions organised around NAPLAN writing criteria categories — the coach never writes the piece.
Next step
Adaptive revise action
A clear next step after every draft so practice adapts — rewrite one focus, retry a sit, or open a lesson.
Games + NAPLAN practice
Build stamina in worlds — then sit a formative timed draft.
Between NAPLAN-style sittings, writing games keep Years 3 & 5 practising narrative and persuasive craft. Feedback stays formative — never an official band.

More drafts before the piece that counts.
